Hello Everyone,

I have finally plucked up the courage to speak up!

We've just filled the tank with water, it's very cloudy at present but from what I understand this is normal? But I can't get the filter going (I believe the correct term is priming).

A couple of topics in the ‘Tips and Tricks’ suggested sucking on the outlet hose but water filled up the filter canister and started to leak out because it was coming in through that outlet pipe but not able to flow back out.

Do you know what I have done wrong? I'm sure I have probably just overlooked something obvious.

Confused

You got the syphoning bit right Debbie, that starts the water flowing and does fill up the cannister. If there's a leak it means either the pipes or the lid of the cannister aren't properly fitted. The water should flow through until it comes as far up the outlet pipe as the water level in the tank. Once you switch the filter on the pump takes over and pushes the water right through back into the tank. What kind of filter is it? Some have self priming mechanisms and water flow controls to shut water off when you need to clean the filter.

Hehehehehehe it's a bit of a sod to get going is the XP2 Debbie. On the inlet pipe there is a screw cap, once you have everything in position pour a couple of jugs of water down it until you can see the water coming up the other side and then turn the thing on hehehehhe. Sucking is an option if it won't get started. The bonus is once it is primed you won't have to do it again because of the clever cut off switchLOL. As for the leak, check that the rubber that fits inside the lid isn't twisted. I put in the article for the xp2 about the rubber twisting so you should see it clearly there.
Hehehehehehe, I knew you'd have fun Debbie.
It's the Rena XP2 filter Jim.
