we went to the garden center today and they had they the usual pets section so we had a look, wouldn't have brought any fish but the plants were quite cheap. i thought i would get some vallis for when the 4ft turns back to a community set-up(next few days) they were 10 plants for £2 which i thought was quite good compared to what the lfs and pah charge. i left sherrie to sort it and had a look at the birds(feathered onesWink) took them out to clean them when we got home and they must have just put a handfull in the bag, i counted 27 individual plants plus sherrie had got a fountain(Ophiopogon japonicus)plant. so that was a result for £2.25. i've planted them, hopefully with the crown showing, i say that because we were arguing about what bit the crown wasLOL i must be mad though because im in for a few days of re-planting, the cichlids think some new toys have been put in to play withBig smile

some of the smaller plants were floating this morningLOL i've re-planted them in the 3ft with the severum in to see if he wants to munch them. just to confirm my winning the argument over what the crown is, i said it was the bulb type thing what the stem goes into and the roots come out of.

I wish I lived where you live Paul, they're so careful here about counting how many they're giving you, they treat them like gold-dust! My Vallis 'melts' too Jenny, I'm managing to keep my last one alive somehow, I'm onto my 3rd week of it still being in the tank and looking remotely Vallis like! Fingers crossed it can hold on long enough to start putting some shoots up and hiding the tatty ones.

Result Paul! Once they have a big root system you could possibly stop them being pulled out by burying the roots under some pebbles to wiegh them down and stop the fish pulling them up. You're right, the crown is where the roots and leaves meet. This should be just above the gravel.
