    Posted: 29 July 2010 at 8:48pm
Hello - I have just setup a new Biorb tank and purchased the Samual Baker Pebble ornament to place into the tank. I washed the ornament well and placed into the tank for an hour but I noticed a really strong adhesive smell. When I took the ornament out I noticed there was some glue fixed to the bottom of the ornament which presumably held the ornament in its packaging. Do you think this glue is safe? I've since peeled it off but the base (where the glue was fixed) smells really strong and I'm now really concerned I will need to empty my tank of water and start the cycling process again.

Surely, Reef One wouldn't use an adhesive that was damaging? But I'm just pretty concerned since it smells very very strong.

Any suggestions/help?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

I love biorbs and biubes and own one of each size!

I know Reef One products rather well (being a moderator on http://www.biorbforum.co.uk ) and I do know the one problem these ornaments have is the paint peeling off.  I've not noticed anyone else mention the glue issue I have to say.

As glues can vary greatly and you've noticed quite a smell, I'd email Reef One directly http://www.reef-one.com/Contact-Us and ask them about it to make sure.  I wouldn't put it in the tank.

With regard to the setup of your tank, please please please ignore the instructions that come with the tank!!!  They are direly lacking in correct information and you will end up with fish that become poorly as a result of following their instructions.

You can always have a look at the biorb specific forum for excellent instruction on how to set up these great little tanks - I'm jennybio on there - or I can repeat everything that's said on there here.  I know what I'd prefer you to do for my ease, but I am not wanting to chase you away from here as this is a great forum too and there's alot of knowledgeable people on here too
The biorbforum is perfect for biorb specific information though and there are loads of photos of biorbs, biubes and Life tanks on there for you to get inspiration from Smile Worth a visit!

In the mean time, throw away the Reef One instructions and have a read of this article http://www.fishkeepingforum.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=5997 which has 3 different ways on how to prepare your tank properly and without harming any fish.

If you have any worries please please shout out Smile
Slowly, slowly, happy tanky! :D
