Greetings peeps

As Ive had loads of time to set up my new tank, I could go to town with the luxury bits, eg timing events, so off to Argos I wander and purchace 2 X3 pack digital timers.

these were set up to do main lighting, co2 regulator, co2 water ciculation pump, air pump , to de-gas at night, dawn light/moon light.
all worked brilliantly for about 2 weeks, then one timer ''locked'', reset it and all was well, next day another locked in the on position, later same day a third locked in off position, so I took them all back. The guy seemed to know what was coming, none in stock, no stock at any local store, none in warehouse, none on order, seems we have a problem Houston!

Bought 6 from Tesco, different design, still digital, tesco branded, SAME bloody timers in different case, same problems, same response!

Just ordered mechanical timers, branded product off Ebay , lets hope these work.

anyone else had these problems with these timers?

I am old fashioned enough to have used mechanical timers on all my tanks so, no, I haven't. What make in particular are you talking about?

Tesco branded timer and the same internals in a different case sold by Argos, dont know the manufacturer as they are all been returned. Just glad I found out now before any livestock was involved, imagine if the co2 reg got locked on and I never noticed, maybe fish would have survived but they would have suffered I guess and thats enough cause for me to ditch them. When I was working as a plumber I always had loads of heating system timers and I always used them, without trouble, but they were free then, now to use good quality heating timers would cost me trade nearly £100 so not an option. Lets hope I have your luck Jim and have no problems with mechanical ones.

One ''problem'' I do foresee is that digital timers are slim, width wise, where mechanical ones are wider and I may have to respace my feeder sockets to install them. And I had it all nice and arranged too, more  crawling about under cabinet.....arrrrrrgggg

I use old converted "GPO" clockwork timers, they may be a tad outdated, but they are still going strong Smile

thanks for response,

snowclown...now that is a reliable bit of kit, looks bullet proof.

Jim...photos ...well, I dont think many would approve of my approach,I made all my own rockwork ect to incorporate pump outlets , filter inlets and an internal ''sump''  etc and purists may be a bit down on such works of the devil  lol. but I like it so thats all that matters. the rock work took ages and cost a packet, but the end result is worth it, for me anyway.

and lets face it if we were all the same life would be soooooo boring.
